Indus ministry mulls $10.5 billion of paper mills in Russia

VLADIVOSTOK, Sep 5 (PRIME) -- The Industry and Trade Industry is studying construction of U.S. $10.5 billion worth of pulp and paper mills with foreign partners, Deputy Minister Viktor Yevtukhov told PRIME on Tuesday.

“In the long run, we are studying a potential possibility of implementing eight projects to produce paper pulp with combined investments of about $10.5 billion,” and since the sum is large, the ministry wants to attract foreign investors, including Chinese companies, he said.

“The analysis we have done showed that several regions have all capabilities to construct at least four pulp and paper mills. We are in active negotiations on the matter,” he said.

The list of projects includes construction of a pulp and paper mill in the Amursk city of the Khabarovsk Region; timber company Segezha Group, which plans to upgrade existing and build new facilities in the Krasnoyarsk Region together with China’s CAMC Engineering; and a project of Sveza company in the Vologda Region, he said.
